How honest are online hosting review sites?
One of the biggest problems with online reviews are that they can be biased and web hosting is no different, so here are some quick tips to help you determine if what is being said will really help you make a decision.
Is the website offering the reviews just offering reviews on hosting? If so there is a good chance it’s just a way for the site owner to generate income as an affiliate from the hosting companies.
There’s nothing wrong with affiliate deals but advice should be impartial and you should always make sure that the reviewer has more to loose than just the few £s they make as an affiliate if the advice they give is poor.
Does the reviewer currently or have they ever spent their own money with some of all of the companies they are reviewing? I would rather listen to somebody who has real experience of the service than somebody who has not wouldn’t you?
Make sure that no single hosting company is favoured, this could mean that the site reviewing hosting options is actually the hosting company or somebody closely connected or profiting form that site and that does not lend its self to an impartial review.
